The MA House passed H.5613, An Act to Improve Care and Prepare for the New Era of Alzheimer’s and Dementia — legislation that will help those suffering from the disease, along with their families and caregivers.
This bill strengthens training, improves coordination across the health care system, and invests in a workforce better prepared to provide the care that diagnosed individuals need. Specifically, it would:
- Require dementia training for police officers, firefighters, and EMS personnel
- Require acute care hospitals to allow family members and caregivers to remain with dementia patients at all times
- Require Senior Care Options and One Care plans to cover dementia care coordination
We’re grateful to Speaker Ron Mariano, HWM Chair Aaron Michlewitz, Leader Danielle Gregoire, and Chairs John Lawn and Tom Stanley for their leadership in ensuring Massachusetts continues to lead the way in making life easier for those facing this devastating, but all-too-common disease
