Rep. Hogan attended UMass Lowell’s Toxic Use Reduction Institute (TURI)’s ceremony at the State House honoring Champions of Toxic Use Reduction. She presented a “TURI Small Business Award” to Lindsey Kersten from Donoma Gymnastics in Stow. From previous case studies of work funded by TURI, Lindsey and the team at Donoma learned that added flame retardants in foam pit cubes result in exposure to children, gymnasts, and staff to toxic chemicals with no significant added fire safety benefit. Donoma Gymnastics is working with TURI and Stow Fire Chief JP Benoit to replace their foam cubes with non-flame retardant cubes, providing for fire safety and a healthier environment for staff, children and families.
